This notice tells you how BKR Capital manages the personal information you share. It is written to be read, not filed and it is intentionally written in plain language.
Behind it sits our internal Data Protection Policy, which sets the rules our employees and suppliers must follow, and our AI Usage Policy, which governs how we use automated systems. Those are internal documents, but everything they commit us to that affects you is stated here. If you want to have more information, please don't hesitate to connect with us.

How we use AI to handle your information
Automated intake
When you email a funding application or pitch materials to one of our intake addresses, an automated system might read the message and the attachments. It pulls out the key details (who you are, what your company does, what stage you are at, etc.) and records them in our pipeline system so our team can review them in an organised way.
What this means for you
A person decides. No funding decision, hiring decision, or other decision that significantly affects you is made by an automated system. AI might help us read, organise and draft. Our team reviews and decides.
Your information is not used to train AI models. Our agreements with our AI providers prohibit it
Who we share it with
We might share information with contractors and service providers who work for us under written agreements. We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or as part of a sale or merger of our business.
A current list of our service providers is available on request.
Where it is processed
We process personal information mainly in Canada. Some of our providers, including our AI providers, process information in the United States, where it may be accessible to courts and authorities under local law. Before information is transferred outside Canada, we assess the level of protection it will receive and ensure appropriate safeguards are in place.
How long we keep it
We keep personal information only for as long as necessary for the purposes for which it was collected and as required by applicable laws. Retention periods vary depending on the type of information. For example, job applications are kept for 12 months, and marketing contacts are kept until you unsubscribe. We maintain an internal retention schedule and can provide details of the retention period applicable to your information upon request.
Your rights
You can ask us to:
-
tell you what personal information we hold about you, and give you a copy;
-
correct anything that is wrong, incomplete or unclear;
-
delete your information;
-
stop sending you marketing;
-
limit how we use your information;
-
give you your information in a portable electronic format, or send it to another organisation; and
-
withdraw your consent, where we rely on it.
Please write to privacy@bkrcapital.ca and we will reply within 30 days. There is no charge for access to or correction of information. If we decline a request, we will provide an explanation as well as recourses you have access to.

You can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. If you are in Quebec, you can complain to the Commission d’accès à l’information du Québec. If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, you can complain to your local data protection authority.
